Our story
We met on a misty Sunday at the Karkloof farmers' market, both queueing for the last loaf of rye. Bongani let Ilse have it, then followed her to the coffee stand to ask whether it had been worth it. It had. We talked until the stalls were packed away.
Bongani proposed three winters later, halfway up the Karkloof Falls trail, in a drizzle so fine neither of us noticed it until the ring box was wet. Ilse said yes before he had finished the question, and we walked the rest of the way grinning like fools.
Since then we have built a slow, happy life: Sunday walks in the forest, a kitchen that always smells of bread, a vegetable patch the monkeys love more than we do, and an old dog called Bosbok who sleeps through all of it.
Now we are ready for the next chapter, and we would like to begin it among the trees where it all started, with the people who brought us here.
