Two people, one staircase
We met on the stairs of the old university library, both reaching for the banister at the same moment and both refusing to go first. Lwazi was carrying a pile of architecture books; Charlotte was late for a lecture on Victorian novels. Neither of us made it where we were going that afternoon.
Seven years, three cities and a great many old buildings later, he asked her on those same stairs. She said yes before he had finished the question.
Now we would love for the people who mean the most to us to be there as we begin the next chapter, in a house that has seen a century of celebrations.
